Job.com Reveals Results of New Year's Resolution Poll
January 16, 2013
For many, the turn of a new year means the beginning of job search season, but finding a new job isn't necessarily on every job seekers list this month. In fact, a recent Facebook survey reveals that only 40 percent of job seekers resolve to find a new job in 2013.
The week long survey of over 2,200 participants and conducted on Job.com's Facebook page asked fans "What's Your New Year's Resolution?" To the career site's surprise less than half of respondents plan to better themselves with a new job this year.
"Although we expected to see more of the vote lean towards finding a new job, we do find credibility in the results of this poll," said Brian Alden, President and CEO of Job.com, "We believe that searching for a job has become such an integral part of our job seeker's daily routine, that they reserve other personal goals and aspirations for the new year."
More traditional resolutions make up the majority of the selections in Job.com's New Year's poll with over a third of respondents choosing the ever so popular resolution of losing weight. Becoming more fiscally responsible is also a list topper with 291 of the 2,269 votes opting to balance their budget or simply save more money. Other New Year's resolutions included an increase in faith, becoming more positive and reaping the health benefits from quitting smoking.
"Although we'd like to see more people take ownership of their job search by making it a New Year's goal, we generally feel a sense of positivity and motivation so far this year." Alden continued, "We found most of the comments generated from the poll to be encouraging and with a lighthearted tone. With so much uncertainty still going on in today's job market, it's nice to see our fans lifting each other up."
